Interested in a research project that needs a significant amount of data collection? Have no fear, the academic associates are here! The Academic Associate program is a clinical research assistant program in the Emergency Department. The program consists of mostly undergraduate students interested in getting involved in the hospital as a preparation for their future careers. The primary responsibility of academic associates is to assist ongoing research projects being conducted in the department in an effort to improve emergency care, bring greater precision to the practice of emergency medicine (EM), and improve the quality of care.
Not only do they provide wonderful help, but there's a great opportunity for residents interested in academia. Residents give hands-on lectures to them including ultrasound application in the emergency department, splinting labs, as well as suturing labs. They have the opportunity to shadow residents throughout the ER as well.
